Well worth the two hour drive each way from the French Quarter in New Orleans. The self-guided, self-paced tour of the production facilities was very good. The drive through Jungle Gardens was awesome! There are several stops along the way where you can get out and walk along the paths to the various points of interest. Caution: most of the walkways are paving stones but some have deteriorated. Don't try it if you are unsteady or handicapped. Regardless, the drive through Jungle Gardens is still beautiful. More live oak trees than you can count! We had been told in N.O. that the trip wasn't worth it and there was nothing there. Absolutely and totally wrong! We skipped the restaurant and instead, lunched on a muffuletta from Central Grocery.

This is a really interesting place. We've all used Tabasco Sauce, but did you ever wonder where it came from? Avery Island, Louisiana, and it's not surrounded by water. It's a raised area of land pushed up by the salt mines underground. The whole process here is very interesting. There are several buildings and quite a bit of walking involved. We did the Self-guided tour and thought it was self-explanatory. The Restaurant on the property was adequate, since we were starving, and not terribly expensive. Do Not Skip the Jungle Tour. A wonderful drive- through experience filled with wildlife, including ALLIGATORS! The LiveOaks are plentiful and beautiful, covered with vines and Spanish Moss. Only took about 15 minutes to drive through and is included with your admission ticket. This facility is about 30 miles south of Lafayette, and well worth the drive.
