The only black-sand beach in the Hilo region provides relaxed swimming, sheltered rock pools for beautiful snorkeling and excellent surfing.

Lava from Mauna Kea has formed a natural seawall at Richardson Ocean Park, making it a sheltered beach that is perfect snorkeling with giant sea turtles, monk seals and abundant sea life. Rock pools that fill at high tide make for shallow, detached swimming holes at low tide. Snorkel in the pools, without the stress of swell or currents.

I had a great time on this tour. Adam knew the best spots to see a wide range of fish and coral, and we had heaps of time to explore.We saw fish that I'd only ever see before in an aquarium. I was also very keen to see a sea turtle, so we made another stop at a place well known just for sea turtles (but otherwise no coral) and were lucky enough to see 3 turtles. They were just beautiful to watch and it is an experience I will remember for the rest of my life!

This was fantastic. First time my daughter was able to coordinate snorkeling and not shy away from the mask. They had a wonderful time and saw turtles and fish!
