What more to say about Spencer and Globe Trekker Tours?? Phenomenal! Stupendous! Superb! To start off: this was our second Globe Trekker Tours tour - and we got the same great guide, Spencer!! (Our first was summer 2021, in Yellowstone NP - needless to say, we're thrilled they've expanded!) Next, we had some emergency family issues crop up on the day of our tour, and nearly had to cancel - but our guide was very sympathetic and was courteously able to accommodate us. (NOTE: *I would NOT recommend starting this tour any later than advertised because you can't see the landscape after dark. I would even ask to start a bit earlier next time*). Also, we are a super outdoorsy couple - who also love a great local food scene. While on a visit to see friends in the Bay, the weather was amazing we were jonesing to get out and explore the coast region outside the City. That said, while we didn't hike much on this tour, we spontaneously booked this tour and found plenty of everything else we love: amazing regional gastronomy, gorgeous landscape vistas EVERYWHERE, and a rich cultural history that we barely scratched the surface of (pre-Colonial, Colonial, Gold Rush, Prohibition, labor/workers, etc.). Finally, Spencer is awesome and a great tour guide!! He's super charismatic, and has quite the 'gift of gab' - although his knowledge of and obvious love for the California coast keeps you hanging on every word (not to speak of the fascinating local history he shared about pirates, rebels, robber barons, activists, and bootleggers!). Not only was he super friendly and hospitable, but because of his clear connection with this region, he was able to tailor our trip just enough so that we were able to see some really interesting (to us..) points of interest, while not deviating much from the main tour - which as luck has it, is primarily along one main long road. Our favorite stops were: - Pigeon Point Lighthouse, visitor's center & tidepools worth the stroll! ***** - the Santa Cruz Pier. We made a quick walk out-and-back and still got great, postcard-quality photos of the boardwalk (which is adjacent), nearby surfers ("Steamer Lane", bruh!), lounging seals, & the whole coast from the end **** - Montara Beach, quick stop to stroll cliff-side trails during the Agapanthus bloom (a seasonal stop only?) ***** - Pescadero town: quirky art galleries, and artichoke bread. Enough said. **** - Swanton Berry Farm. Blink and you'd miss this locals-only farm immediately off the road with a deep farm-labor history and EXCELLENT fresh berry things. (Seasonal berry picking too apparently - but not on our trip) ***** - 17-Mile Drive. Absolutely stunning, don't miss it. We let Spencer recommend photo stops because there were just too many amazing views around every turn.***** Stops we were quite happy to quickly skip/drive-by (Thanks for your recommendations, Spencer!): - Half Moon Bay - the marina is so pretty, but easily seen from the road - Cannery Row - we're not big shoppers, but if you are this is probably a fun stop. Also looks actually super fun for kids, too. - Santa Cruz Boardwalk - not much time to see both the Pier AND the Boardwalk, although it's also probably another great stop with kids. Next time we come through SF/Bay, we 110% plan to book this day tour down the PCH again. Some planning suggestions we got from our guide (and a new friend we met in Santa Cruz): - Late October- Early Feb: Monarch butterfly migration in Santa Cruz @ Lighthouse - Late Summer- mid-Autumn time: Corn maze at & pumpkin picking at Arata's Pumpkin Farm (great stop for kids, but the 'Minotaur Corn Maze' is for all ages). Our friends in SF recommended this stop over Half Moon Bay, but our late start meant we missed our chance this time. - December - April: whale migration all along the Santa Cruz/Monterey coast (bring binoculars, they say..) - Late Jan - Early April: Calla Lily flower blooms along the coast (apparently there's a local spot 5 mins. south of Bixby Bridge...?). Thank you Spencer (& Globe Trekkers Tours)!!!

What an experience! The sights and history of this stretch of coast is absolutely incredible, and our guide was wonderful. He was very flexible, and took care to make sure we covered everything we wanted to see. We covered more ground than we would have on our own, and he got us the best views at each location. We would recommend Globe Trekkers 100%!
