It was a dark, cloudy night in mid-December. The temperatures lingered around subtropical at 70* at the secluded NASA wildlife reserve. The perfect romantic setting for the last night of our honeymoon. The bioluminescent comb jellyfish in their mating season were igniting fires in the water. Each stroke from the paddle or hand lit up the water like stars in the sky. The guides were informative, yet not too chattery. One could stay close and listen or keep distance and let the mind wander through the aquatic galactic experience.

Started off a bit slow, not much was happening. Was disappointed we couldn't have nets to catch the comb jellies... The bioluminescent was low, got a bit brighter as we went on. We found loads of jellies so we managed to pick a few up. Highlight of the night was holding it and seeing it glow blue. I then passed it over to other kayakers. We did this on a new moon but there wasn't alot to see. Was good fun, lifted my spirits holding the jelly because without that it was quite slow and boring. Good tour, great hosts. Would maybe do it again during peak summer months.

Thanks for your review! We're glad you got to see a lot of the comb jellies. There are strict rules about handling the comb jellies for conservation purposes, so unfortunately we cannot provide our guests with nets. Only the guides are allowed to have them, per regulations. However, we still think they're great to see and we're happy you were able to witness their bioluminescence. We hope to see you again in the future for a tour with us, maybe in the summer time.

My sister and I had an absolutely wonderful experience on the Bioluminescence Night Kayaking Tour at Merritt Island. We loved our guide Jared. Jared was an extremely personable young man with a wealth of knowledge regarding several species of fish, alligators, manatees, birds and many animals found on the Wildlife Refuge. He also shared his knowledge of the three types of mangrooves we encountered while kayaking. My sister and I had a wonderful experience with a grunt fish, that remained under our kayak for a very long time..and of course, Jared informed us all about this type of fish. We wore water shoes, which were very comfortable, and lots of mosquito repellent, as it was a calm evening and many mosquitoes were around. Jared was a fabulous guide and shared a wealth of information regarding the Kennedy Space Center and the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge co-existence.I would highly recommend Jared as your tour guide!
