I did the $55 tour from Haulover Canal (regular kayaks- not clear). A part of me wants to give this tour a lower rating, but I won't because I think it would end up being a bit biased, as I just don't really like tours. The guides were professional and energetic. They cracked a lot of jokes throughout the entire tour. It really wasn't my thing because for me, I was there for the nature. Which, let me say, was PHENOMENAL. The moon was half full and it did create quite a bit of light on the water but the bioluminescence was still very bright in a lot of places. I've traveled to 44 countries and was so happy to learn I didn't have to go as far as Puerto Rico or the Maldives to see something I've been wanting to see for a very long time! The coolest thing ever for me was the fish bolting around in the water, and I loved the little shrimp scurrying around underwater too. The bioluminescence the creatures activate from their movements is simply magical.
Although we weren't always moving on the tour, and we did linger in certain areas for a while so we can enjoy the bioluminescence, one thing that really bothered me was that when my sister and I found a really good spot (like near the mangroves the fish were very active), it was suddenly time to go and the guide that watched the back of the group would have to kind of hurry us up so we didn't get lost. I get that most people don't have a long attention span and in the end, it is a kayaking activity, but I was there to admire the bioluminescence so I didn't want to be rushed. Luckily at the end when we took our kayaks back to shore, we found a nice little spot to swim in the water, and WOW how different is that than just seeing the paddle touch the water or your hand. Highly suggest doing that. The water felt very warm to the hand's touch, but it was a bit chillier when going full body (nothing you can't get used to).
Three more notes: 1) I didn't regret paying less for the regular kayaking- it seemed more durable in bumpier water (crashing waves are gorgeous in bioluminescent lighting) than the clear kayak would and you still see plenty of beauty 2) The bioluminescence sparkles on your skin after you take it out of the water. Try it on your entire body! 3) BUGS!! I counted 28 bug bites from last night (8 of those on my face), they bit me through my light jacket and through my deet-free bug spray. I do not recommend using deet because it breaks down ecosystems because it doesn't degrade so just expect to get bitten and try to not linger outside while waiting for the tour to start because I think it was much worse before we got on the water.
