This was one of the worst experiences of my life. The tour guide was a blatant anti-Semite.. Driving in a Hasidic section of Williamsburg, we were told Jews are dirty, leave their children unattended and are unfriendly. We were taken through what she described as either currently or recently, the worst neighborhoods in the city. We were shown the "Tony Soprano house" in the Bronx. Neither Tony nor the actor who portrayed him ever lived in the Bronx. I doubt she knows this was a fictional character. Instead of celebrating all the things that make this city amazing, we were shown the gloom and doom created by the rich white man. This should be listed as a social justice warrior tour. I'm sure there's an audience for that. I can't believe the tour operators let this continue. This bitter, angry, jealous woman has no business working with the public. Honestly, I can't tell you how horrifying this was..

We booked the english language tour. Although the booking site stated the tour was available in either english or spanish, it failed to mention that the tour was in fact commentated in both. So instead of 7 hours of english commentary we received 3 hours, if that. Having the tour guide switch languages every few sentences also made it quite hard to follow or led to the english commentary being delivered before or after you had passed by the point of interest. Furthermore, the commentary that was provided was racist and divisive at times. It is one thing to note a neighbourhood has a high concentration of a certain religious, ethnic or national group, and give the historical context to this or note how that group's integration changed the city. It is another to drive through said neighbourhood commenting on all the ways "they" are different. It's even worse when this commentary includes outdated, unproven stereotypes and is derogatory about how the group chooses to live their life. The tour guide was also seemingly unconcerned with providing accurate facts about neighbourhoods. I spent a good chunk of the tour fact checking statements on my phone, or listening to the guide talk about where she currently lived, had previously lived and wanted to live. Many of these facts are common knowledge and not hard to get right. For example, it is not the endeavor space shuttle located on the Intrepid and the shuttle located there was only a test shuttle. Other times the commentary was quite contradictory - in one sentences a neighbourhood was entirely safe these days, in the next it was still dangerous. I would not recommend this tour to anyone.

We did this tour with Lulu, she was very knowledgeable and seemed to really enjoy delivering this tour. She is a local, so hearing her speak of her own experiences and give a true depiction of what it is like to live within some of the neighbourhoods we visited was a real treat and highly insightful. I recommend this tour simply because many of us travellers would not usually make our own way out to the Bronx or Harlem, etc.. but with this type of tour you get to do just that! A long day but it all goes extremely fast as you are constantly moving and learning new things along the way. The bus was comfortable and you stop for restroom breaks frequently. My only suggestion would be to perhaps only do two stops per tour - The Bronx and Harlem for example, this way you could spend more time there and possibly even have lunch together as a group and do some shopping within the community. We ended up going back to the Bronx some days later to do just that and it was a great day out. Thanks
