Explore some of Charleston's enchanting alleyways and historic sites on this small group, 2-hour walking tour. With our small group tours, you are guaranteed a more intimate and up-close experience. Charleston's alleyways are fortunately located within the popular historic district which allows us to include some well known points of interest and go a little "off the beaten path” while exploring the history and beauty of Charleston's enchanting alleyways. Generally, we include between four to six different alleyways/passages as well as popular points of interest like Rainbow Row and of course, tons of history! These pedestrian passageways are often overlooked, but walking along these cobbled paths is an opportunity to appreciate Charleston's rich history and hidden, more intimate charms.

Our guide, Lawrence, was so knowledgeable about the historical context of the city of Charleston and history of the time period to present day. The small group tour really enhanced the experience. Exploring the hidden alleyways really gave a deeper understanding of the functionality of these historical alleyways. The allure of the hidden alleyways entices you to want to learn so much more about Charleston. Now, we feel more comfortable exploring the hidden gems and beauty on future visits.

This tour was the PERFECT way to kick off our time in Charleston! Walking through places we would have never discovered without our guide gave us the opportunity to get oriented to the area easily and meant we were able to notice and appreciate many more nuances for the rest of the trip. Laurence was exactly what you'd expect in a guide who is from Charleston — exceptionally personable, kind, light-hearted, and very knowledgeable. He sprinkled in countless details that were only possible because of his personal experiences and focused on creating the best tour for our small group. He clearly enjoyed sharing the rich history of the city in a wonderfully engaging way without getting in the weeds and always leaving space for questions. Grab your favorite walking shoes and a bottle of water, just don't forget to request Laurence when you book!

I went on this tour because it sounded a little off the beaten path from other tours/routes through the city. The amount that I learned about Charleston, while wandering hidden pathways, was excellent. It gave me pause to consider more than just what can be seen from the busier streets. Our guide had a strong passion for Charleston's history, which I find very engaging. The tour lasted the full 2 hours, despite the heat.
