Last week I took my 3 children ages 9, 8, and 6 on the 9:30 kayak tour.
While visiting family in the area my husband was needed back in PA and my sis in law and I unexpectedly ended up needing to bring my youngest along on the tour. Our guide Martha, offered to take my son (the 6 year old) on her SUP so that we could still do the tour and it really saved the day. That was a huge WIN for customer service.
We had a pretty windy day for our tour so visibility wasn’t the best for spotting things under water but we still saw some turtles, conch, needle fish, and schools of smaller fish around us.
😎The key is having a great pair of polarized sun glasses! 😎
Martha made the tour really great even with the heavy wind. She took time to teach us about the area, wildlife, foliage, and body of water we were paddling in. As a native Floridian and teacher her style was very conversational yet informative. I couldn’t always hear what my 6 year old was asking her but I could see that his mouth was moving a lot!
We took a few breaks and got out of our boats to stretch and cool off while we waited out some of the stronger winds/wind to change directions (all part of trusting Mother Nature when you take a nature tour) and Martha had us tuck in around the edges when paddling back where there was less wind. (Another valuable tip/trick/skill that if you didn’t know before the trip you would now be able to apply should you find yourself in that situation)
All of us had a great day and there was a little whining from my 9 year old daughter due to paddle fatigue- so I did most of our paddling (with 2 cracked ribs) but all in all everyone had a fantastic time on the water and we ALL slept well that night!
