Beautiful day! Great crew and we saw hundreds of Dolphins and a gray whale! Excellent experience! Captain Marie was great!

I would not recommend Captain Dave's Safari tour for the following reasons: We were assured to see whales when we called to make the reservation. Not only did we not see them but I suspect that the boat captain didn't even look for them as he rushed back to the marina after having seen the dolphins. I don't know that they have the appropriate equipment to track the whales, like in other whale watching cruises I took. The staff was disorganized and rude when I was trying to access the pods with my small child. I won't go into too many details here but the interaction was nasty. I felt bullied and it all happened in front of my child. The pods are small and felt dirty. They try to push selling a group photo taken by the staff by editing and printing them for you on the boat. The result is not only poor in term of photography but also feels like they are hard selling you by handing you the photos in front of everybody. Lastly, and to not be completely negative, we did see a lot of dolphins and that was great but the rest of the experience detailed above diminished my ability to fully enjoy the moment.

Hi Leo, thank you so much for sharing your feedback. I’m so sorry the trip did not meet your expectations, and I wish we could have shown you whales along with the dolphins. Since we do record our calls for quality assurance, we were able to double check and during the booking process, our reservationist did not assure you that you would see whales. Dana Point is the Dolphin & Whale Watching Capital of the World ®, so the chances of sightings are excellent all year round, but we never guarantee what our passengers will see because nature is just unpredictable. Our Captains do their best using their extensive experience to visually locate the wildlife. There are some things that can aid in the spotting of whales such as clear weather, high quality binoculars, and if there is already a whale near the boat, a drone, but otherwise there isn’t any “appropriate equipment” to use. I understand that our General Manager did already speak at length with your wife regarding the concerns about our boat and crew, and we also sent you a free copy of your digital family portrait, which your wife did say you both wanted but that you declined to purchase. I am very glad you enjoyed spending time with the wild dolphins. We hope you will consider joining us again – we’d love a second chance to make sure you have a 5-star experience out on the water with us!

Everyone was friendly and helpful. Staff to the other passengers. Excellent trip 12/24/22. noon trip. Captain Chuck, Matt & Hanna. Trip started out foggy, the sun came out & Captain Chuck was in communication with some of the other tours which had spotted 2 gray whale sittings. He immediately changed course & in a few minutes we were there. We must have watched them for 30+ minutes. It was a Most Excellent Amazing Xmas Eve. I have been on several whale watching trips over the years, but never was lucky enough to actually see the whales this up close & for so long. It's always a treat to be out on the water. I booked this the day before & it was the best trip ever!
