Charleston City Market

Our Barn is located just off of the Charleston City Market. You will meet your certified tour guide here and then you will depart on your hour long horse or mule drawn carriage tour. The carriage will go through the City gate at the market where the tour guide is assigned a tour route. You will see about 30 blocks of the historic district which will include beautiful architecture, churches, buildings, gardens and more. The tour returns to the Big Red Barn.

We decided to take a carriage tour in Charleston last minute without reservations. We were able to get on this tour in 45 minutes. It's the luck of the draw which route you will be seeing since the commission has this well planned to protect the horses as well as your safety. We saw some beautiful neighborhoods in the French Quarter and the Battery. Since it was the height of the Spring so many flowers were blooming especially the bougainvillea. Our driver was knowledgeable and witty.

ReaLly enjoyed this. You leave a block from the City Market. Great tour guide, wonderful way to see the historic district. We highly recommend this. Well worth the money for any first time visitor!

We decided last minute to try this tour with our two teen boys as a way to see the city. The positives: The customer service for purchasing the tickets and the ladies working the counter were super friendly and helpful. My husband is 6’7” and was concerned about being able to fit. She made sure we were seated in the front so he had plenty of room. Josh, our guide was also really friendly and super knowledgeable about Charleston and about horses The negative: The course of the tour is at random- you don’t know what you are going to see. That is set by Charleston. This is a bummer because there were so many classic Charleston landmarks we thought we would see and didn’t. But this wasn’t necessarily their fault. Josh was very knowledgeable but you had to directly ask him the history questions. We felt that if he had more of history slant that would have made a difference in the presentation. Overall we would recommend this company. They were friendly, provided excellent customer service and Josh was super knowledgeable-
