Experience the thrill of riding in one of Alaska's oldest modes of transportation! The dogsled! Towns, villages and lifestyles were created using the traditional style dogs that you will meet while on your tour. Learn of the rich history of Chatanika from one of our guides while travelling through a beautiful boreal forest.
We only have 2 tour slots a day to give each group ample time. This is a small family run business and you will be greeted and guided by an owner the entire time here. We do accomidate families/large groups & single travelers! For group size requests over 6 guests please contact Howling Bay Kennel direct through their website.
Our weight limit per guest is 250lbs clothed. If you exceed the weight limit, but meet the physical requirements and can comfortably participate, we may be able to accomidate you as a single rider for a double booking fee. Dog Sledding at Howling Bay Kennels was a bucket list item and definitely did not disappoint! Tabitha (the owner) and Kate were both wonderful guides. We learned about the different breeds of dogs, the history of their breeds and were able to watch them get the last few dogs ready to go. You can see how happy these dogs are doing what they love, and it was great to hear about the history of the land as we were on the trails. We also learned about local wild animals, how the dogs live, and at the end they spent time talking with us and explaining many facets of their land and how they live. Topped it off with getting to meet and pet/interact with these lovely animals. We would highly recommend Howling Bay Kennels!

Tabitha and Kate are absolutely wonderful guides. Their hospitality, education and passion for dog sledding is amazing. I highly recommend this tour. Easy to find and accessible location, plenty of time to bond with their four legged fur babies to learn their personalities. Plenty of picture taking opportunities. They provided use of snow pants if needed. Thank you for sharing your passion and best wishes to you both.
