Well, that was fun! We chose the 7 am - 10 am excursion. Yes, that meant a pick-up time of 5:20 am at our hotel (and a groan-worthy wake-up time of 4:55 am), but it was certainly worth it! We were picked up promptly by Laura and Faith. We made it to the dock in about 45 minutes. We received a very friendly reception from expert Captain Dani (who got her captain’s license when she was only 23!), Jeremy, Lauren, Alex and Melanie. We got right underway and motored to a sweet little bay where a pod of approximately 12 - 15 spinner dolphins showed up and entertained us for some time. We also saw a mama and baby whale off and on during our trip. And a few turtles. We then motored to another spot where we got in the water for snorkeling. Lots of different kinds of fish, and one turtle showed up. This is a fun trip if you have kids, or are yourself a kid at heart; the slide from the top deck into the ocean is a lot of fun!! My tips/observations: 1. Sign up for the early excursion - there is a better chance of seeing marine life. 2. Rent the wetsuit for $10. You will be very comfortable in the water. 3. If you have your own swim fins, bring them along. Snorkel masks are provided. 4. The snacks were of the crunchy/chippy/granola variety. If you think you want something more substantial, just bring it along. Water and lemonade were free. 4. My hubby thought the hula performance was going to be hokey. But it was quite lovely. 5. Do bring some bills with you. The crew worked very hard to ensure we had a terrific time, and they certainly earned their tip. It was a thoroughly delightful morning!! Mahalo.
