We love taking Segway tours in any city we visit. But this was the first time that we took a Segway food tour and we were delighted. Our host was the fabulous Segway Las Vegas, which we have taken twice before. Their Downtown Las Vegas tour remains the most interesting Segway tour we have ever taken in any of the eight or nine cities we have taken such tours. It introduced us to the new hip downtown Arts District of Las Vegas, while pointing out numerous new restaurants we should go visit on our own. That was right before the pandemic.
We felt safe enough to go back now and try our first Segway in a year and a half. We were not disappointed. This time though, we tried the Segway food tour, which takes you through some of the same downtown areas but also stops at four food locations that are off the strip and off the busiest parts of Fremont Street.
Sean the owner and Shawn the trusty 2nd in command made sure our Segway gliding with both fun and completely safe. So if you never had a Segway tour before or you are a semi-regular as we were, Segway Las Vegas is the perfect place to start your first Segway or to continue the fun.
The food tour took us to a Thai, Mexican, “punk rock” pizza and dessert restaurants. Other than the dessert restaurant, which is part of the cool Container Park in downtown Las Vegas, I’m sure we would’ve never found any of the restaurants or tried them on our own. Each had their particular own character and we can genuinely say none of them were generic.
The pizza place we visited is the famous (or infamous) Evil Knievel Pizza on Fremont Street, but out of the busiest area. However the bar is somewhat of an Internet sensation so it was very packed, and we felt safer eating outside. If you are a counterculture person, a punk rocker, a Raider’s fan, tattooed and pierced, or just hungry for a large slice, you fit right in. The decor- well it has to be experienced. But that’s why you go to Vegas, to try new things. The pizza by the way was damn good, better than I would’ve expected at such a place.
My one suggestion for improvement would be to put more restaurants on the list but go for smaller portions and shorter trips with each. Most food tours we have taken in the past feature a selection of bites but not full meals. These four gave you (pardon the pun) the whole enchilada. I think it would work better having 6 food stops which were shorter and having less food in each. But we can’t complain about the portions being too small…
5 Stars for Segway Las Vegas - again.
