This was such a great experience! We met Larry, the owner, under the tramway. He was so friendly and being a Juneau native, told us about the history of the town while we waited for our guide to arrive with the van and bikes. Very shortly, Kate, our guide picked us up and took us on a short ride to where our trek began. Kate was so friendly and fun! It was just my spouse and on the last ride of the day, so we had extra time to see a few more things and hike a bit more. The e-bikes we rode were practically brand new and so easy to ride. Our trip took us along the shore on Douglas Island, where we could look out onto the bay and Mendenhall Glacier. It was so nice to get out into nature and smell all of the wildflowers and the ocean. We stopped at a few different lookouts where we took pictures of bald eagles, the glacier and waterfalls. We also did some light hiking down to the water, with Kate explaining the flora and fauna we were seeing. She taught us about nurse logs and MASH - the progression of new forest life that grows out of these logs. So interesting! The ride and hikes were very easy - just about anyone could do this. We haven’t been in bikes for 10 years and had no problems. This was a great way to spend an afternoon in Juneau and we would do it again in a heartbeat.
