We did the Behind the Scenes tour, it was great!! First up we met some of the big cats (black jaguar, mountain lion, tigers) while a staff member fed them chicken snacks through the fencing. Then we ourselves got to feed chicken leg snacks to two white tigers through a push tube system (safely from 3 feet away) which was incredible!! We continued the walking tour and met the rest of the big cats, then got on a tram to go visit the “retired” cats- ones who are older or camera/people shy. Most of them did not come out to say hi but it was cool to see their area and learn more about them/their stories from the guide. Then we saw the arctic foxes and the wolf hybrids in their habitats, then we got to decorate a cardboard box with edible/non-toxic paint...after the paint dried the boxes were stuffed with paper scraps and sprayed with perfume/pheromones and given to the white tigers for their enrichment, we got to see them tear open and rip apart the boxes we had decorated especially for them! There were also two rescued lemurs and two rescued monkeys when we went. The habitats were plenty roomy and had lots of enrichment items. Fresh water always available, full pools for when it gets hot, shade and soft grasses/hay and shelter from the rain available, all the basics appeared to be done very well. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and told us all about how the big cats’ diets, socialization, enrichment, and medical concerns are catered to very carefully. Cats themselves appeared relaxed and comfortable- no pacing, over-grooming, or worrisome captivity behaviors. Our Behind the Scenes Tour also included some gifts from the gift store which I think may change based on the seasons/what’s in stock. Overall it was a great experience and the ticket fees go towards helping to take care of these awesome animals so we felt really great about it. Will definitely visit again sometime!!

This was a great experience to do with my teen (14-year-old) daughter, who loves animals and big cats, in particular. I upgraded her to the "you feed" portion of the feeding tour, and she got to feed raw chicken to two of the tigers on the tour. They're very safety conscious, including providing disposable gloves so you don't have to directly touch the raw meat/bucket, and you're feeding the tigers using a push stick to push the meat through a length of PVC pipe and then through double layers of fencing to the tiger -- but it is fun because the tigers are definitely interested and right there! One of the things I like about this place is that the tigers (and lions, leopards, etc.; they don't just have tigers) are free to choose how they do (or don't) interact with you. The staff knows each individual's story, and they are well cared for. You learn about the animals both individually, and as a species on the tour -- which is completely outside, which is also a benefit during covid times. WE like the feeding tour because I think it gives the cats more incentive to come closer to the fence line for a better view. This was our second time visiting the National Tiger Sanctuary; maybe someday we'll go back and do a different kind of tour. Highly recommend for any animal lovers!

Our family enjoyed this very educational tour. The tigers and lions were gorgeous and we learned a lot about the animals. The sanctuary is very open about where their animals came from and how they handle them. The only negative is that these big cats have to be in captivity at all, but at least they have made it to a location where they are treated with respect and customized care. We would go back for one of the longer tours at another time. We got to hear the lions communicating with each other through the park and it was quite fascinating!
