My friends and I had a great day, and we would all recommend this trip as an introduction to Jamestown and Yorktown. It was a good complement to our visit to Williamsburg. I would like to return to spend a full day in each of those locations, which have excellent museums with creative displays.
The modern, brand-new bus left on time, and the driver/guide delivered commentaries that provided a good background for all the spots that we visited. He presented the historical information in a conversational way. We started at 8AM and ended at 5:30PM, and I will say that on the way back my brain was overloaded with historical information. A quiet half-hour return trip would have been OK!
At lunchtime I was confused, however, because the tour description said that it would be 'a Colonial-style lunch at a local restaurant'. Instead, we ate in the Cafe at the Jamestown museum. The food was fine, there were plenty of choices, but it wasn't what I thought 'a Colonial-style meal' would be. I guess that the peanut soup and Brunswick stew came close to that.
Overall, a great trip and a great value, because it included transportation, guide, museum entries, and lunch.
