As a true Minnesotan would say, Uff-da, dat was awesome!!
Garl picked us up at our hotel in Key Largo and drove us to the everglades. We stopped at an amazing fruit stand and bought fresh fruit that we munched on all day. I have never had such fresh fruit and cucumbers! We then walked though knee to thigh deep water to see what we could see. I never thought I would be walking through croc infested water! We got messy but that was half the fun. We then made our way to the fresh water lake to do some kayaking. My husband and I rode together in what Garl called the "Divorce Kayak" but there was no yelling or arguing involved! For Garl It was really cold, but warm for us Minnesotans. It was also very windy so we did not do much salt water kayaking. We did a short salt water trip to watch the sunset and enjoy a bottle of wine. We then went for a night walk to look for crocs in the dark. My husband and Garl tried to tell me we would be walking the same path that we took early during the day, but the night walk is totally dry and along paths.
Garl brought his camera so I did not bring mine. You are too busy looking for wild life and watching so you do not fall in the water to take pictures anyway. I did bring my small waterproof video camera.
I do not consider myself very physically fit so I was concerned about being able to do this adventure. The day was not overly strenuous. You do need to be prepared for a long and exhausting day but it is defiently worth it. I was also worried about tipping the kayak. The kayak was very stable and I did not feel unsafe at all. The only time the kayak got tippy was when my paddle got stuck in the mongrove trees when we were going through a very narrow passage.
Garl is an awesome person and we are so glad we got to meet him. Cannot wait to take our kids on the adventure when we get to Florida in the future.
