It is with heavy heart I give this review. I was extremely looking forward to this trip and had done my research per website and trip advisor, the reason I'm giving it a low score is that the trip was not as described. I understand that every trip is different due to weather/time of year etc but I felt information on the day was lacking and trip felt poorly organised.
The email I received when enquiring stated 'This trip consists of hiking/slogging on foot and a freshwater paddle. At this point, the half day guests depart. The full day continues with saltwater paddling, a sunset paddle, and a nightwalk on Anhinga Trail'
This did not happen.
First stop we waded through two cyprus domes - one would have been enough we seen the same things in both. In the email it stated mosquito suits would be available. They were not offered.
We then went on a salt water paddle. This lasted over 4 hours. We are two fit 30 year olds so the kayaking was not a problem, however when we set out the guide never stated we would be out so long, he did not stress to bring plenty of water. We were under the impression from him we would be away maybe one hour. We thought we still had a freshwater paddle to do and therefore would be back onshore to stock up. Communication extremely poor.
After that the day was over. There was no freshwater paddle, no mangrove tunnels, no alligator sightings, no chilling to watch sunset, hardly any birds - unlike the photos on website, no Anhinga trail and no explanation why not. Extremely disappointing.
In the emails it also states a guide will take photos which you can buy at the end. The guide had no camera, therefore no photos. We should have been informed of this.
On a positive note the day was an experience. We seen an owl, 2 snakes, 2 crocodiles and some birds. The guide was enthusiastic about nature and informative.
Would I do this tour again?- unlikely.
Tips:
#For the Cyprus Dome walk for ladies I'd advise wearing old gym lycra full length leggings and a long sleeved light top, you will get muddy and there are mosquitos and sharp branches which will scratch you. Bring your own water shoes. You will be able to change before the kayaking.
#I'd also bring another change of clothes for after the kayaking incase you get wet.
#Hat is a must for the kayaking in my opinion
#Clothing/bags can be left in the van so don't worry about carrying them around
#Bring some sandwiches/fruit/crisps/drinks. Again don't worry about having too much it can stay in the van. Its a long day you will get hungry.
