Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
Your expert guide will meet you at the Pavilion next to the Upper Falls Parking Area at 8AM. This is also the staring point for Uncle Tom's Trail. The hike is a 6-mile loop. The hike is along the Canyon Rim, through the forest out to Ribbon Lake, and then past a geyser basin, Clear Lake, and the Wapiti Meadows with big views of the Hayden Valley. If you hike one trail in Yellowstone this is it!

We did the Lamar River hike and enjoyed it a great deal. It was and easy going hike with plenty of rest stops to look for wildlife. We had lunch down by the river and learned a great deal about the area and it's history. Plenty of bison to see although there were no bears or wolves. Maybe that's a good thing! After looking at some of the questions that follow I should note that our guide, Josh, was very careful about wearing a facemask and keeping an appropriate distance from all participants. We appreciated his approach to the issues we face today.

My two adult granddaughters and I did the Canyon Rim Trail with Emily, a very knowledgeable young woman. We learned so much and saw spectacular sights. Such a wide variety of eco-systems to walk through, and she could tell you anything you wanted to know about it. I would highly recommend this hike. It was a lucky choice for us. My granddaughters were awed. One caution: bring bug repellent!!

So...Josh is Mr. Yellowstone 2020! Ok, that’s a joke but I really wanted to get your attention. We live in Utah so we were undecided initially on a ‘guided hike’ as we go up and down mountains here. My hard to please teen daughter and I are SO, SO glad we did tour the Lamar Valley with Josh! So, some of the reviews on here mention lateness, no shows, etc. I noticed those were from several years ago but I booked last minute and still reconfirmed. Josh met us at the Lamar Valley Trailhead and he was early despite a bison traffic jam! My loquacious daughter (inherited) and I asked all sorts of questions throughout the 6 hour hike-he could answer them all! We covered the following (and saw more wildlife including a mama bear defending her 2 cubs from a wolf): 1. Fauna(animals)-land, sea, air, habitat, survival, etc. Along with bear/Wolfe situation (both cubs survived) we saw Badgers, Bison, Pronghorn(and babies), Elk, ground squirrels, Eagles, Hawks and lots of butterflies! 2. Flora(flowers, plants and trees)-Josh knew the name of every wildflower, tree, shrub, etc and had great stories about them all! 3. Geology-from River cutouts to caves and awesome petrified trees, agates, lava again-he knew everything and knows where to find them all. 4. History-Josh was so knowledgeable of both modern (wolf release, 1988 fires, etc) as well as the entire Lewis and Clark Story. Because of his knowledge, I feel Josh can most importantly make it an incredible day for little kids (Indian stories, animals, etc), big kids (teen daughter as mentioned), college professors, and grandparents. His ability to cater to his audience was the best I have seen! I am so secure in his abilities that we are going to bring my 80 year old mom from the Southeast back for a week of guided hikes with him. Also, his price was very, very fair. We did give him a 40% tip because we were so impressed! Feel free to ask any questions!
