Josh was a really good guide. He was enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the area, and seemed interested in all the hikers.
My expectations were not in line with the hike. I'm 65 y.o. and in decent shape for my age. Knowing I can have difficulty with moderate elevations in hiking, I tend to stay away from them. Since this was a Lamar River Valley hike and the description advised it had little elevation, I assumed this was the hike for me.
It was real tough for me and Josh stopped 4-6 times for breaks, not including lunch. Personally, I was not able to appreciate the beautiful scenery as I would have liked, because I was working at the top of my ability. Usually out of breath, or recovering. The second half after we climbed out of the river bed was easier than the first.
This was to be a 6 hour hike and we completed it in 5. I believe most would have liked a slower pace, if not for physical reasons, to take pictures and have more time to bask in the natural beauty.
People who are physically up for a moderate hike in gorgeous Lamar Valley could really love this hike. It just wasn't for me.
