If you want to avoid driving, traffic, and entrance lines this is perfect. We purchased standard coach class tickets and had no regrets. Seats are pretty comfortable and large windows to look out. Our coach tour guide was hilarious and engaging - shout out to Cameron. This gentleman had two train cars to tend to, a bum leg, and worked his tail off while keeping most of us entertained. Please remember to tip these folks if you appreciate their services. The day starts with a pre-boarding show (included with train tickets - outdoor bleacher seats available). Then get boarded to head out - don't waste time. Bathrooms available on the train cars. They recommend you do NOT take the free shuttles once arriving since there is no guarantee on schedule and making it back prior to departure time. Warning, if you miss the departure, you are on your own. It's 1.5 hour drive back to Williams with no Uber or shuttle services available. Tip! Bring lunch with you! Once dropped off there was limited sit-down options (expensive) or a very disappointing grab'n'go that had awful looking sandwiches and chips available. I would recommend picking up a Subway sandwich and chips in Williams prior to boarding the train. We had plenty of time to walk the entire "Walk of Ages" trail along the rim and visit a couple of the building near the train depot. Then it was pretty much time to head back to train depot. If you have a hard time walking, do not attempt the Walk of Ages. It's beautiful but would be difficult terrain with walker or cane, etc. We drove back the next day and took the free shuttle out to the Western end of the canyon and drove out of the Eastern end. To see the majority of the canyon, you really need more than the "train day". But if you have 2 days, train is a fun option.
BONUS!! Included in your ticket fee is the entrance fee which is good for 7 days following purchase. So if you decide to drive back, just show them your tickets at the entrance stations and you don't need to re-pay the $35 entrance fee.
