Battery & White Point Gardens

The tour begins at White Point Garden where the settlers landed in 1680. There you hear about how Charleston was started. A gift to 8 Lord Proprietors from King Charles II. You will see the Stevens Lather House, at 17,000 sq. ft, the second largest home in Charleston. In 1920 the good people of Charleston established the Society for the Preservation of Old Dwellings in the ballroom of that home. It was the very first preservation society in the country.

Our guide Mike knew so much about Charleston’s history. He was engaging and the 2+ hours was too short. We knew some Civil War history of Charleston, but Mike added so many interesting details. We enjoyed it immensely.

Mike was such an interesting tour guide!!! He knew all of the history and details about the historic district. The walking tour was well paced. Mike really personalized our experience and answered all of our questions. He even gave us wonderful recommendations for restaurants. Highly recommend his tour!
