Mesa Verde, Spanish for green table, offers a spectacular look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over 700 years. Today the park protects nearly 5,000 known archaeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. These sites are some of the most notable and best preserved in the United States.

You will learn and see as much as you can in a single day with a guide passionate about the park and the culture. This tour has stops at several of the parks archaeological sites, several of the cliff dwellings, the historic museum, spectacular and a 30 minute ranger guided tour into the crown jewel of the park; Cliff Palace. Cliff Palace is a world- famous masterpiece of architecture and design and the largest cliff dwelling in the park. Considered moderately strenuous, this tour will descend uneven stone steps and climb four 10ft ladders, with an elevation change of 100 feet. Total walking distance is 1/4 mile. Although tickets will be provided for everyone, not everyone has to go on the tour and this can be decided together with your guide at the park. Included: Park fees, Cliff Palace tickets, transportation to and from Durango and within the park, plenty of water and a delicious sandwich lunch. Cannot accommodate children under the age of 4 or people will severe mobility issues

It is a long way to go, but worth every mile! The site is incredibly interesting and amazing! The National Park Rangers provide excellent, very reasonably priced tours. We toured the Cliff Palace and the Balcony House in one day. Crawling out of the Balcony House through the tiny tunnel was a bit of a challenge, but we made it!

One of my favorite questions I've been asked is why did they build the ruins so far from the highway! Mesa Verde definitely can challenge a visitor and why I think having a tour guide can really tailor the experience for our guests. Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the review.

Frank was a great guide who went out of his way to make sure that we had a great time and had loads of information. My gripe is wit the van. The windows were completely inadequate for a sight seeing trip. I was bent over for most of the trip in order to get a decent view outside. The other problem was with the horrible air conditioning in the van. With the temperature in the 90s, the bulk of the transportation was in sweltering heat.

I've heard from Frank after each tour how he has never experienced such temperatures at Mesa Verde in his 25 years plus doing tours in the National Park. Unfortunately it is illegal to idle a vehicle at MVNP so there is no way to keep the A/C running. We have newer vehicles with sightseeing friendly windows that unfortunately offset the top notch A/C units with their larger solar gain. As the owner I defer to Frank's expertise and opinion about the selection of 3 vehicles he has at his disposal. Thank you for the comment and we will continue to search for a solution to your experience.

My husband and I booked multiple excursions through Mountain Rivers and loved them both. We especially enjoyed our Mesa Verde tour. Frank was an AWESOME guide and made us feel so welcome and was so knowledgeable. He made the experience so incredible and we so greatly enjoyed our trip. Definitely planning to return.
