We had a positive experience on this cruise despite rainy weather. We also made a similar cruise in Whittier (reviewed separately) that we thought has an edge in how they deliver. The company offers great flexibility in refunds when the weather is not cooperating. Although rain is common in Seward, you might still reconsider if it's very rainy. Was our day, and we saw darn little...darn little wildlife and just glimpses of glaciers beneath the low lying clouds. The company doesn't control that, yet if you have the flexibility to wait for sun, we recommend doing that. Boarding is a semi-controlled free-for-all. The check in desk tells you to gather there about 30 minutes before boarding time. Well, by then, there were 30 people waiting on a line on the dock. Boarding is first come first served, and people being the way they are, immediately spread out "claiming" each table. We saw families struggling to find a place to sit together. There's a basic lunch offered. Lower quality than the competitor. Although we acknowledge the cruise isn't about lunch. The crew was very professional and the Captain did a great job narrating the cruise . The boat itself is designed for some lumpy seas. The bathroom facilities are very limited and outside. Tips: 1. Line up at the awning leading to the dock early, particularly if you have a family with kids. 2. Bring your binoculars. 3. Dress for the rain and cold, even in August. 4. Take a good look at the weather forecast before making a decision to go. 5. Bring your mask. Need to wear it inside the ship, but not outside. (crew kind of gave up on enforcement a couple hours in...we were seated near "those" kind of people). All told it is a solid operation, just not as polished as the other cruise we reviewed. That should not dissuade you...just setting expectations.
