The Matanuska Glacier is one of Alaska's premiere destinations. At 27 miles long and 4 miles wide it is Alaska's largest glacier accessible by road. It also is boasts one of the most accessible areas to walk on of any glacier in Alaska. Marvel at ice that formed thousands of years ago high in the Chugach Mountains.

Your day will start with a magnificent scenic drive along the Glenn Highway with stunning mountain vistas and plenty of time for photo stops. Next we will drive to the toe of the glacier to dawn our ice cleats and begin exploring the glacier by foot. Each day is unique due to the dynamic nature of the glacier. We generally spend two hours and walk three miles on the ice. After exploring the glacier we will have lunch at a local eatery with stunning views of the glacier and surrounding scenery. Each tour will be customized to suit your groups interest. This is a once in a lifetime bucket list opportunity to explore glacial ice!

Experience of a lifetime getting up close and personal with a glacier. Amazing experience well worth the money. Equipment and snow gear provided was in excellent condition. Sandy in the office was very helpful and Jonathan Douglass was very knowledgeable and did a fantastic job in finding the right balance between narrating the tour and letting us just experience the nature. Safety and conservation was always top of mind.

I’m honestly not the kind of person to leave reviews whatsoever, but i just had to leave a review for this tour! My girlfriend and i are from out of town and decided to do the glacier hiking tour last minute and we do NOT regret our decision at all!! It was well worth the extra money for transportation from Anchorage and the guide because they provided us with the necessary equipment and an experience we would not have been able to enjoy on our own! Savitri was our tour guide and he is AMAZING!! so personable and passionate about these tours! he really made us feel special and made sure we had the best experience possible! he was a trooper with all of the pictures he took for us and didn’t make us feel like an inconvenience whatsoever. definitely would recommend this tour with Savitri and greatland! it is definitely worth the money and a surreal experience you cannot pass up!!

Great tour. Our instructors (Bill and Jonathan) were knowledgeable and fun. They encouraged us to explore, helped take pictures and pointed out the coolest parts of the glacier for us. The glacier is truly off the grid— you won’t be getting any cell service but you truly feel like you’re exploring Alaska!
