Misty Fjords National Monument
Alaska's Inside Passage or Southeast Alaska is home to some of the most breathtaking scenery on earth. One of its jewels is the majestic Misty Fjords National Monument. Completely road-less and consisting of 2.3 million acres, an area larger than Yellowstone, makes a seaplane tour the only way to comfortably experience the many different levels within the deep, narrow fjords. More dramatic than the Grand Canyon, the fjords are steep walled inlets of the sea. Created by glacial gouging long ago, snow capped, sheer granite cliffs rise dramatically 3,500 out of the sea, ribbonned with waterfalls plummeting sensationally thousands of feet. Nestled within the steep walled canyons, lie pristine bowl-shaped alpine lakes suspended at many different elevations above sea level. Fed by more than 150 inches of misty rain annually, the lush rain forest, made of giant stands of spruce, hemlock and cedar, cling to the rugged rising terrain. Wildlife abounds in the area, with mountain goats and harbor seals being the most frequently sighted animals. Our most popular tour lasts 2 hours and takes you across Revilliagegedo Island over to the Alaskan mainland where the fjords are located, and into the heart of the monument. Headsets with voice communication are provided to passengers so you can chat in flight and ask questions as we fly. For the highlight of the tour, we will land on an alpine lake or on a calm bay at sea level and let passengers get off of the floatplane for a quiet excursion. Relax, stretch your legs and take some photos as you drink in the silence of the vast wilderness. Flying within the Misty Fjords is truly an emotional experience you’ll never forget!!

Our party of 4 were on a 7 day Alaskan cruise on Norwegian Bliss May 28- June 4 2022 and let me just say this, as great as the ship, food and sites were...NOTHING compared to our flight with Island Wings! If you make the trip to Alaska and dont take this trip, you are going home emptyhanded. Not only were the views exceptional but our pilot was great, informative and took a great interest in us as a group. His knowledge of not only the plane but the land and surroundings as he narrated to us all the entire trip through headset was incredible. If you dont do this, its your own fault!

My wife and I took a Misty Fjords Seaplane Tour on May 19, 2022. I arranged the tour through Island Wings Air Service the previous October. Communication via email was excellent. The trip confirmation gave detailed information about where to meet and what we could bring on the plane. Michelle was our pilot. Having flown seaplanes in the Ketchikan area since 1985, she was a wealth of knowledge about logging and wildlife in the area. The Misty Fjords scenery is well worth the price of the trip. Michelle flew over the different coves of Misty Fjords and then did a water landing on nearby Lake Nooya. Her skill as a pilot was on display as the landing was smooth as glass. We were allowed out of the plane to witness firsthand the serenity of a remote, Alaskan, mountain lake. All we heard was the sound of water cascading down the canyon walls. Michelle took photos of each couple. Some with the plane and lake in the background and another set with the lake and snow covered mountains in the background. When the two hour tour ended, we were presented with a brochure about Misty Fjords and a DVD of a flight over the fjord. I highly recommend a Misty Fjords Seaplane Tour with Island Wings Air Service as your guide.

This was truly an amazing experience from start to finish. Great booking process with friendly and informative service. We were picked up near our cruise dock by a friendly gentleman and taken to the Seaplane location. The flight through Misty Fjords was incredible. Michelle was incredible and so informative about the area, the plane and everything in between. We had a beautiful day so the view all around were stunning (having just done a helicopter flight to the Denver Glacier in Skagway this had a lot to live up to). The take off and landings were so smooth. Landing in the lake and being able to stand on the little island surrounded by mountains and water was so peaceful and such an experience. Would thoroughly recommend this company to anyone in the area. Michelle looked after us so well and gave so much information. Island Wings are also one of the only companies to land during the flight, which was a highlight for us.
