We debated between rafting in Moab or the Rockies. We chose Moab in part because of the heat: swimming parts of the trip was refreshing and part of the highlight. The rapids themselves at this point in the summer were nothing much to speak of, and if it is real adventure you are looking for, you might be disappointed. However, our guide and the guide of the family we traveled with absolutely made the experience (thanks Kate and Eric). Not only were they informative and humorous, they provided an insight into the life in and around Moab, particularly of the subculture of raft guides. The half day is short, but at this time of year was probably enough.

I never write reviews but felt the need to write a positive review for our experience doing a half day rafting trip from Moab. The staff were excellent- I usually feel intimidated doing sporty outdoor tour activities but the entire staff made everyone feel at ease and excited to get on the water. The rafting was class I/II so not very challenging and river itself was low but the staff made it fun at all times with corny jokes on the bus ride to the drop site to other things during rafting itself when there were slower points. At the end of the trip there was some issue with the bus along with another problem in town with power that led to a gridlock and about 45 minute delay of our return to Moab. Not the best situation but it was hot and we just stayed in the river swimming. The staff were great in keeping us entertained during the delay and the unbelieveable part was how the owner of the company took ownership for the delay and refunded the full amount. Things happen and buses can break with any company. I dont think many if any other tour companies would handle it the way red river did.

We went our for the half day tour down the Colorado River. James was our tour guide, and he was absolutely fantastic. He was funny, informative, and affable. He showed us an amazing and fun time. The sights on this tour were absolutely stunning. The river was relaxing, and then when we hit the rapids it was very fun. James did a great job of getting us to work as a team in order to get through the rapids and down the river as easily as possible. We also played fun raft games in the still water. We can not recommend this trip enough, and hopefully you are lucky enough to get James as a guide, although every guide seemed to be fun, professional, and while they took their job seriously they are out there to show the guest a very fun time. We highly recommend this company, as you will have an amazing time.
