I'm sure this is a great venue as it did come highly recommended to us, but, most of it was closed. This may be something you just have to wait for COVID to clear to enjoy. The sailboat ride, which was $8 per person extra, was a good value. the museum was not. You walk around, buy a bottled water, see a bunch of really cool closed buildings, and you have 45 minutes later. Not recommended, especially for the price.

We were disappointed to hear of your experience at Mystic Seaport Museum and are sorry that you didn't get more out of your visit while you were here. It is true that many of the buildings are roped off in the Maritime village area. We have to limit access due to the guidelines set up by the state of CT. However we have front-loaded a considerable amount of value for the general admission tickets bought at the museum. For example each ticket includes a 25 minute narrated cruise on the Mystic River, free row boat, pedal boat or sailboat rentals, free planetarium shows, a free gift- hardbound book on yacht design, access to three national landmark ships (including the world's last wooden whaling ship) and access to the Thompson Exhibition Building featuring the Exhibit "A Way With Wood". Cruises, shows and rentals are available on a first-come, first serve basis so we encourage our guests to come earlier in the day to reserve their spot. Our 17 acre campus is a great place to spend a day. You mentioned that you enjoyed the $8 Sail boat ride. By chance did you visit the museum later in the afternoon? Sometimes people that come later in the day feel that they did not get the full value out of their ticket. That is why all of our full-priced general admission tickets are good for a second visit within 3 days so if you missed out on an offering you have a second chance to get the full value of your ticket. As we go move ahead and this pandemic recedes you can certainly expect that we will re-open the buildings you found closed. Thank you again for your honest review and we will certainly re-evaluate our value proposition especially towards the end of the day.

Most of the buildings were closed of course due to Covid restrictions but we enjoyed what we did get to see. Learned about the making of rope, spoke with some craftsmen working on boats, saw the Mayflower 2 in port and boarded a whaling ship. The staff were very nice.

Our family of 4 (which includes 2 daughters in their 20s) took a day trip here for my 60th birthday. I don't know what Mystic Seaport is like when there isn't a pandemic but the value we got for our $14.95 tickets was amazing and I got in for free for my birthday! We came on a Friday and it was so empty we felt as if we had the place all to ourselves. We had a picnic lunch and walked through the village and onto the decks of several ships. Although the village's buildings were not open, we learned about some of them by scanning the QR codes outside of them. The volunteers on the decks of the ships were so helpful and very enthusiastic -- especially the bubbly lady on the Joseph Conrad! But I'm keeping the best things for last -- 3 FREE BOATING EXPERIENCES!!! We did a tour of the seaport on the Liberty, a Navy transfer ship ... FREE! We rented a rowboat to take out for as long as we wanted (though we only took it out for 10 minutes because rowing is not easy) ... FREE! And we took the most lovely and relaxing catboat (one-masted sailboat) ride with Captain Al for FREE! The catboat ride was the highlight of the day. The restaurant was closing down for the day so even our waters were FREE ... and we also received a FREE hardcover coffee table book upon arrival. My advice to you is: Go Now! The pandemic is an excellent time to enjoy this special and beautiful place! We will definitely be back no matter the price.
