Note: the resort does not allow children under 18 in the outside rock pool. However, they may use the indoor pool under adult supervision.

  • We can only pick up from inside the city limits of Fairbanks or North Pole. For other locations, you will need to go to an agreed location (eg Walmart), please contact our office to discuss if you are staying outside the city limits.
  • Water is not supplied for this tour. We recommending bringing a refillable water bottle.

This was just okay. I think this experience may depend on your guide, and we had one who was very nice but didn’t seem super interested in organizing our group for the experience. We also had a super rainy evening, which means no lights; that’s just luck this time of year. On the way out, we were picked up promptly at our hotel. Our tour guide/driver didn’t have a working mic in the van, which meant that we heard very little of what he was saying. He did stop for a couple of moose hanging out along the road, which was cool. Once at the Chena Hot Springs, there was very little direction or organization. However, we figured it out ourselves. The Ice Museum was down for maintenance (or maybe closed for good?), so no drinks or options there. The hot springs were obviously so nice, and we spent a while in there soaking. The restaurant is also good, if a little bit expensive but not outrageously so. Finally, it was raining so we came back early because there wasn’t really a point to stick around late. (Clearly, not anyone’s fault just the way it worked out.)

The Northern lights were only visible for a short while. But it was worth making the trip anyway. We saw beautiful scenery on the ride up, enjoyed an excellent dinner in the Chena Hot Springs restaurant, and luxuriated in the hot springs. The spa area was well designed so that despite the large numbers of people, it never felt crowded. Considering how cold it was while we were in Alaska, soaking in the spring water was a wonderful break. We also enjoyed the "ice museum", which isn't a museum, but rather a display of impressive carvings made by a couple whose workshop is in the building. The experience of sitting at an ice bar, drinking cocktails from glasses carved from ice, is touristy, but fun.

We enjoyed the gorgeous scenery on the route and at the spa. The Ice Museum was fun, although not really a museum. I appreciated the guide's advice about the restaurant. Dinner was very good, better than you might expect in a tourist destination. The guide let us know whenever the auroras made an appearance. Sadly, they were somewhat faint that night, but that's always the risk you take. We drove ourselves to many other sites, but this was far enough from Anchorage to make a guided tour a much better option.
