Great tour! Huge day out - prepared to be tired after.
We started the morning at the swamp and the guys at the swamp were incredible, the airboats are fun to be on and love how our guide got a bit adventurous with the boat when out in the open water. Saw a fair few alligators and birds. Highlight was feeding the alligators from the boat. Our guide had been navigating the waterways since he was 12 and you could tell he knew them well and where to find what we were looking for.
1 hour, 20 drive to the plantation. Quite bumpy, be prepared to get thrown around for a bit. If you get motion sickness easily, you will get sick on this ride. Another really great eye opening experience. Guided big house tour was great and the guide here was also amazing, so very informative and entertaining. The tour groups are quite big though for navigating small spaces and hard to get a good look at things at times because so many people are crammed into the living / dining rooms.
The rest of the plantation is self guided tour with a slavery exhibit, family cemetery, lovely gardens. The mint julep is great and so refreshing.
Hour drive back to New Orleans, same road, same bumps and a really rough ride.
A great day out, enjoy!
