Our trip with Beau was the highlight of our stay on Orcas island. We were traveling with two young kids and Beau's smaller boat let them enjoy the trip. On a day when there were few whales to be seen, he sped us north to find a pod of transient whales. We were one of three boats viewing the whales. Beau also spotted seals and eagles on our trip. Beau was also willing to set a crab pot so the kids could watch as he pulled crabs out of the water.

We have lived in the San Juans for 15 years and enjoy the puget sound each summer in our sailboat. This past summer we had young guests visiting from the mid west--Michigan, and we wanted something special --edgy. We asked around and ended up contacting Beau. We found the EDGE we were hoping for. Ended up having a six hour trek around the less visited islands--scooting ( fast boat) to encounter wildlife and quiet bays and out of the way beaches, and the whole thing was polished off with a one of a kind dinner that is layed out on linen in a remote setting that feels like a "water paradise" with timeless vistas and all within a half hour "fast", exciting yet quite comfortable boat trip. Let me hit a few of the highlights and offer you a few comments should you join Beau for an edgy island expereince- 1) he picked us up right in front of the bed and breakfast that our guests were staying at--the Willows Inn on on Lmmi Island; no dock but he had a drop ladder on his bow that allowed for beach pick up; saved alot of hassle-no driving! 2) We were out to the whales for our Michigan visitor's first "religious" experience among the orca whales; Beau helped us with the natural history; quite different than you'd think. After about a half hour of hanging out with the orcas, we were off to a hike on a near-by uninhabited state park island called Sucia, where it turned out Beau use to be park ranger. We saw kayakers and eagles, and after an hour or so, Beau served the group lunch, as previously agreed -extra--but the water and sun make you hungry. (By the way, Beau had lots of drinks and snacks on board). 3) After a hour (or so) at Sucia, off we went to lay out crab pots at the "hot " spots Beau knew of, and then more scooting out to other nearby bays and crags (bring your jackets --it could get chilly when you were not inside the cabin) to observe seal and otter, and marine birds everywhere. I especially loved the loons, diving in pairs with their long necks, disappearing below the surface for an unbelievable length of time. 4)And my favorite---the day was polished off with a sunset cruise out to a "lonely" lush island to set up a temporary picnic site to watch the sun go down over the water and have a three course dinner --all catered from a local resraurant that included the crab we caught OUR SELVES earlier that day -- remember those crab pots!??)) all on linen --wine--a fire and songs!. Wow, what a day!. Bring your checkbook, but I did not regret reserving Beau and his boat for my "edgy" guests from MIchigan. Their Christmas card to us talked about nothing else!!

This was a great whale watching and small boat charter business. We went out for a full day in the San Juans saw Orca whales, caught dungeness crab and cook the crab on a remote island park. It was unbelievable. My family went and we filled up the boat, only the five of us. They do all sorts of trips from fishing to kayaking. We highly suggest them.
