Nov 2017
We were called and told we would need to change our trip from Saturday to Sunday. Not as convenient for us but ok. We were met my a nice man in front of our hotel and settled into the van, only to be driven to a roadside pull-off and told we were moving to a car and handed off to a young man. We then drove to a shopping center to pick up a young couple from a cruise ship. Now it's dawning on us that we are to be spending the entire day in this miniature version of a car. The kind where there's the big hump in the middle of the back seat and the floorboard in the middle is about six inches higher. We asked, couldn't they get a van. Our young man began going on and on about how vans are gas guzzlers and why would we want one of those, they're not cost effective, that they are only meant for six or seven passengers, etc. My husband said well there are five of us, two very small seats. He then takes us back to the car rental agency for another car. No bigger. Other couple says we want three seats. Finally after much arguing, my husband and I decide to cancel the trip. To spend 11 - 12 hours squished together wasn't what we signed up for. A trip that was $30 more than others. He argues with us some more and we again say we want to cancel. The guy leaves for awhile, comes back, and now finally we get a van. Now he starts talking about how he ordered a van first, one wasn't available, they are giving us someone else's car, etc. If you remember, above he stated how vans are the gas guzzlers, they don't do that in Hawaii, not cost effective for only five people. Obviously, he did not order a van to begin with. We start off. There is no choice for breakfast. We were getting a breakfast sandwich, with egg, bacon and cheese. I'm thinking McDonalds. That's ok, I like those. Except this was made with, I guess, poached eggs. First bite and all the yolk runs down. I absolutely can not stand uncooked, runny egg yolks! The snacks we were supposed to have, never saw any. We were offered a bottle of water at lunch.....We stopped for coconut nut based ice cream. I thought maybe that was our included snack. But it wasn't, we paid for it ourselves. That all being said, it was a beautiful drive. We did stop several places to take pictures and enjoy the sights. It is a very long day and we were exhausted by the end. But I'm glad we were able to do it and not have to worry about doing the driving. However, I would most certainly make sure exactly what kind of vehicle you are going to be riding in. At $150 a person, you deserve to be comfortable. We would not have gone if they didn't finally get the van.
