Royal Gorge Bridge and Park

Look down into the breathtaking Royal Gorge as this tour takes you over America’s highest suspension bridge nearly 1000 feet above the Arkansas River. Exclusive access through the south entrance to the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park and to the top of Fremont Peak allow you to see and experience true Colorado beauty.

Skyline Drive

Skyline Drive is a scenic roadway in Cañon City, Colorado. It was built by inmate labor in 1905.[1] The road starts from U.S. Highway 50, with a gradual incline up the side of a ridge. When the road crests, it winds, climbs, and falls like a roller coaster until near its end, where a scenic outlook overlooks both the city (east) and the highway (west). The single-lane, one-way road rises about 800 feet above the surrounding terrain. There are no guardrails despite sharp drop offs, and the drive is about 3 miles long.

Temple Canyon Park

Temple Canyon road winds over the Royal Gorge anticline through the ancient hunting grounds of the Ute tribe. The canyon road passes "The Temple" but you have to know where to look. Fossils can be seen along the road with other geological wonders.

This was a really fun excursion. You get to see some real off-road views of the Canon City area. We stopped by Royal Gorge and you get to drive over the bridge, which was really cool. Our guide was great. It does get a bit rough depending on the roads. Take the trip. It is well worth it.

Learned a lot about Cañon City and the surrounding area while riding in the back of the Jeep. Fortunately, the weather was fairly pleasant but the recent lack of rain made the roads dry. The attendant dust made by the Jeep was more than a bit but unpleasant and probably would have been problematic for those with restrictive pulmonary disease. The roads were full of ruts and the ride was a bit rough but tolerable. Fortunately there were only six of us (in a space designed to hold eight). We were sent out with one experienced driver and one driver in training. The one in training started off doing the talking but before long the experienced driver took the mic (much to the chagrin of the driver in training) and did all of rest of the tour (thank goodness). The experienced guide was pleasant and knowledgeable about the local area. All six of the participants (customers) were over age fifty. Seems that the tour would be a bit boring for those under the age 18. All participants seemed enjoy the tour. The views of the mountains and valleys were spectacular. Two participants did the combined tour and zipline (definitely, worth the extra $$)!! Be alerted that you will, not so subtlety, be reminded that the guides "appreciate tips". All-in-all mid September was a great time to take the tour as there were no crowds and no lines. DO THE ZIPLINE!!!

Hi Bruce. Thanks very much for jeeping with us and doing the zip line package. It's unfortunate that our guide-in-training wasn't up to speed yet, and the senior guide had to take over the narration on your tour. That's exactly the reason we send new guides out for trial runs with experienced guides. There is a ton of information to remember about history, geology, paleontology, etc, and some new guides get nervous their first couple times out. I'm glad to hear the senior guide did a great job for the remainder of the tour. With regard to the "possibly boring for kids under 18" statement, please know that we DO adjust the tours to make them fun and memorable for people of all ages. If there were children on your jeep, your guide would have modified his narration to entertain them as well. In fact, we often do custom tours specifically for museum field trips, custom educational tours, and more targeted specifically to school-age children. Lastly, your comment about being reminded about tips for guides - I hope you are referring to the lettering on the jeep interior that says "tips appreciated", and that the guides did not specifically request tips. Yes, gratuities are, of course, optional but the guides do depend on them as part of their income. If you were solicited by a guide for a tip, please contact us to provide more information. Doing that would be inappropriate, and we would like to know if this happened to you. Thank you again for your review. We appreciate your business and your helpful feedback!
