I've lived here for over twenty years and always wanted to go on one of these Red Desert tours. My chance came when my daughter and granddaughter came for a long-overdue visit. The specific tour we selected was the "Bones of the Earth" tour with Travis Nolan. He was wonderful, personable, and very knowledgeable about the archaeology of the area, how it was formed, who the indigenous people were and how they lived and kept cool. Travis told us about the families who homesteaded the land and how it came to be used by Red Jeeps. He pointed out which landmasses would most likely fall and crumble in the next shaker. We tasted some of the Palm Tree "berries" and leaves from a bush, Desert Holly, that were used as salt by the early Spaniards. The trip crisscrossed over the San Andreas Fault and we saw the pushed-up rock movement created by the quakes. The trip was amazing, worth every penny and Travis Nolan is the star!

Boring. To much talking and not enough fun. Way overpriced for the experience. We expected much more adventure and much less talking. It felt like a tourist trap on some eccentric guys' private property.

We are very sorry to hear that the tour was not what you expected. I understand that you called our office and spoke to our Reservations Manager, Nicholle. Apparently, you were expecting a rugged thrill ride, such as some Jeep Tour companies in other parts of the country offer. We try to make it clear on our website that we offer entertaining and educational journeys that respect that natural desert environment and not rugged tours that tear up the landscape. Our mission is to engage, entertain, and educate our guests and as you can see from our other reviews, most of our guests feel we do just that. We do appreciate that despite the fact the tour was not what you were expecting that you called in to add a gratuity for your tour guide. Thank you for your generosity.

What a treat...we had Mike for our guide, we thought it was a tour of the fault but it was way way more then that.. we learned sooo much, about the fault as we drove on top of it, about the topography and how it came to be, the impact of the fault, the flora and fauna and all the critters that call the oasis home... a great 1/2 day for sure and we're going to take the grandkids back.. its good for all ages..Mike, as well as other guides I'm sure, has lived here over 50 years, knows the area incredibly well and tailors each tour to his audience... a very worthwhile tmie indeed!!
