Ugh... I really don't like rating a tour so low but I have taken many food tours and this one I had to leave half way through it, it was just not for me..... however... that does not mean it might not be great for someone else! So here are my thoughts.
The AREA: So I should have done my research a little better on the area we were going to. The Mission area is a very bad area I feel. I would not have felt safe there alone at all. When the Uber dropped us off, I actually didn't want to get out. It is 90% Hispanic so just not knowing Spanish I felt nervous. You have people all over the street trying to sell stuff, from dolls to paper towels. Just felt like a very very low income, unsafe area to be in. Again, I would have NEVER have done this tour if I would have known the area was like this (so I do take some blame in having a bad experience by not doing my homework first)
The Food: We were 90 minutes in and all we had was a burrito, that honestly tasted like one I get in Hawaii, nothing special and a pastry. Food tour? Where was the food? Maybe it was the next 90 minutes of the tour but like I said, I left halfway through. This is an OLD area so even the places to eat look run down and very old. Pretty much all I saw to eat was Mexican food, no variety and nothing special.
So why did I leave? Honestly it was the area was just bad. If we didn't see the beautiful murals along the way, I might have left even earlier than I did. But there is only so much of the same thing.. mural, mural, mural, mural that you can take and then no food. So why stay?
Mark: Mark was our tour guide and I do feel he loves the area so if you fancy yourself wanting to go to an area like this to have a burrito, he would be the man for you to have with you.
