Fun visit to learn more about the food scene in Savannah. Anne our host was knowledgeable on both the food and the history. I didn’t love the first two stops out of the six, but stops 3-6 didn’t disappoint. Highly recommend

I wanted to like this tour, but the food was horrible. It's a food tour, therefore, although the foods can be unique; tasty is typically a must. The tour began with shrimp and grits with Cajun seasoning at a hotel bar. The grits themselves were good, but the spice was too overpowering for someone who's sensitive to spice. It would have been way more palatable if the spice was added at the time. At this point however, I still had high hopes and visions of greatness. That hope was dashed at the second stop. We went to the Prohibition Museum which was a cool stop for sure, but the food was literally so disgusting that I felt sick afterwards. I understand the concept but it was a HUGE miss. The beverage was enough to make my eyes water. It was sheer alcohol and it was like drinking a sparkling pine tree. The tiny bite of pimento cheese on stale white bread did the job of removing that heinous taste in my mouth but it was soon marred by the boiled peanuts and pickled carrots. As I walked around the museum, I figured this had to be the worst of it. It got slightly better, but it was never delicious. I spotted a pie company/bakery and visions of key lime and pecan pie danced in my head. You can imagine my sheer disappointment when we were crowed into a teeny room and presented a sausage covered in a flaky crust. I looked over at the one vegetarian on the tour and yearned to have his selections. While I was choking down a sausage, he was noshing on a cheesy blintz. At the next stop I knew I wanted to be vegetarian when he was served a full sized portion of fish and chips at a Scottish pub, and we were served a small ramekin of lukewarm Shepherd's Pie. For the life of me I could not see the connections between some of this food and Savannah, Georgia. At this point in the tour, I didn't even care what was next. We were led down into a basement bar and served pork belly on a tiny sugar donut with bacon tomato jam. Apparently this was a specialty for this restaurant. It was the most unique offering, and it wasn't horrible if the pieces were eaten separately. I also noted that all of the offerings were savory. It would have been nice to have some sweet mixed in. We ended the tour at the Savannah Bee Company and this was the best stop. We were able to sample a variety of honey as well as a cookie. I especially enjoyed the opportunity to shop at the end. All in all it was not the best food tour I've ever been on. It felt like it missed the mark more than once. I'm not overly picky but most of the food was not palatable. I spent $125 on a food tour and my companion and I looked at each other and agreed we were ready for a "real" lunch. We headed off to the Crystal Beer Garden to try fried green tomatoes and an actual meal.

Thank you for taking our tour and leaving a review during the pandemic and the crisis currently effecting the entire restaurant industry. We appreciated learning about your personal taste preferences and that you were not interested in learning about the Scottish and English influence of Savannah's cuisine. We hope you get the chance to enjoy other deliciously fun and informative food tours with real food.
