Walk, talk and taste your way through historic Charleston South Carolina. This small-group 2.5-hour tour will immerse you in the history and culture of the Lowcountry and allow you to experience a remarkable culinary scene in downtown Charleston.  Stops along the way will include many of the city’s leading restaurants through out the city. Typical tastings include: stone ground grits, Southern pralines, sweet tea, collard greens, Lowcountry barbeque, and fried green tomatoes.

***PLEASE NOTE: If there are any food allergies in your party, we must know at least 48 hours in advance or some restaurants may not be able to accommodate. We also can't guarantee there will be a substitution at every location due to some allergies.

Had a wonderful walking food tour with our guide, Faith Rose. She was a walking encyclopedia of historic information, both about food and Charleston. We were thankful that we had a small group so we could hear what was being said while walking, and had a good chance to ask questions. We had some fantastic food at local restaurants - homemade biscuits with fried chicken with a poached egg and tasso ham gravy, fried green tomatoes with grits and pimento cheese, she-crab soup, a tomato & cheese handpie, a chocolate macaron & homemade chocolate. We were very full by the end of the tour. Can't wait to visit Charleston again and have a full meal at some of the restaurants we visited. Highly recommend this tour.

My wife booked this & I thought it was going to be a "go here, eat & discuss the food, go there, eat & discuss the food some more" type of tour...which it was...but what I didn't expect was discussing the HISTORY of Charleston in the context of food. Like how the enslaved would smuggle seeds in their hair as they were shipped to the US which would inform the southern diet with new foods. Or how the Civil War put a damper on Carolina rice. I won't spoil the info, but just know it was an AWESOME tour. No whitewashing, but also no guilt about the state's history...just the truth in a positive light with an appreciation for where Charleston found its roots.
