My husband, adult daughter, and I went on a private Secret Food Tour in Dallas in September and had a very enjoyable day.
Because of CoVid it was a private tour, and the first the guide had done in six months. The guide wore a mask and had hand sanitizer on hand. We were mostly outside, and the restaurants we visited on a Monday afternoon were not overly crowded, so this felt like a relatively safe activity during CoVid.
We had 5 food stops. Two smaller stops were not available because of CoVid (a butcher and samples at a mozzarella cheese factory.) We felt the food was excellent and representative of Texas. Our first stop was cheese queso dip, followed by a biscuit with fried chicken and then a street taco. The BBQ brisket was outstanding! The final stop was for pie. We tried pecan and apple. Both were delicious!
Between stops we learned the history of the Deep Ellum area of Dallas, including looking at some old photographs in a recently restored hotel. Our guide was friendly and informative. We enjoyed wandering the neighborhood, especially looking at all the murals on the walls of the buildings.
We had previously had a disappointing tour with Secret Food Tours, and they gave us a voucher to try them again. We were so pleased. It turned out to be a really fun thing do do in Dallas when so many activities are shut or limited by CoVid. I would highly recommend this if you are in the area.
