Being an Aerospace engineer, I liked the whole tour, especially the control tower (Island) and the mechanicals of the engine room.

I served on this carrier, and one other, a number of years. Even though I flew on/off many times, there was no way to see the whole ship while I was stationed there. Taking the tour and seeing where other shipmates lived and worked was interesting. You have to remember there are 5k people on here. No way to meet everyone or go everywhere as you were busy all the time. If you have a challenge with stairs, just the basic flight deck and hangar deck will give you a good idea what the ship was like. Remember this ship was built in the 40's. Retrofitted a couple times but not like the newer ones. Now if you have no problem navigating stairs and handrails(sometimes chains) then by all means explore all you can. Watch your toes and most of all your head. Most of our onboard injuries were from people bumping there heads. You'll soon see why. Lots of history to experience and talk with the docents. They are more than ready to explain and show you what it took to operate the ship. Buy your ticket(s) online. Time saver. Parking was $10. Get there early. They open at 10 more or less. We got in a bit early as that was one of the ships I was stationed on. Plus getting there early afforded you the ability to park where you liked. A challenge later in the day.

The audio tour was fascinating! The aircraft carrier landing information session was very informative. I wish there were some shaded spots to sit and rest.
