1
Apache Trail Scenic Drive
Only minutes from the city, the Apache Trail is the perfect way to experience the beauty of the Sonoran desert. Arizona’s first designated “Historic Highway” and a scenic byway, the original Apache Trail was a footpath by which the local Apache Tribe traveled through the Superstition Mountains.

3
Canyon Lake
During your tour along the Apache Trail, you will also be treated to a steamboat cruise on Canyon Lake by the famous Dolly Steamboat.
4
Lost Dutchman State Park
Tortilla Flat has become a fixture of the Apache Trail since its inception in 1904. Not fire, drought, or bandits could destroy this hearty stage stop which holds onto its rich tradition through its architecture and unique decorating sense. If you get too warm, you can quite literally “saddle up” to the bar and enjoy a cold beverage to cool you down. This rugged landscape in the Sonoran Desert has been the jewel that some men were looking for with the most famous involving the Lost Dutchman Mine. Rumored to have found the largest gold vein in the west, German immigrant Jacob Waltz trusted his newly found gold deposit to no one and the secret of its location was buried with him. If you have the “golden eye” maybe you can spot it while on tour!
5
Tortilla Flat
Two of the more colorful stops along the Apache Trail are Goldfield Ghost Town and Tortilla Flat.
6
Goldfield Ghost Town
Goldfield, aptly named after the precious metal found in the area, was incorporated in 1892. For five long years this town was a gold miner’s paradise, however, soon after the vein stopped producing Goldfield quickly turned into a gold mining ghost town. During the tour you will have a chance to spend time in this restored ghost town practicing your gold panning techniques, marveling at the original mining gear, or even spending some time at Lu Lu’s Bordello if you dare.

Apache Trail

Our tour guide, Dan, was very informative, but didn’t stop talking the whole time. The tour price of $159 was outrageous considering we only got admission to a small museum, but hardly any time to look around it and the shop and the dolly steamboat, not a real steamboat. Goldfield was another short visit then back on the bus. Nothing else was included except for a bottle of water!

Thank you for sharing your feedback on our Apache Trail tour. It's unfortunate you didn't see the value in the price as we delivered exactly what was advertised. We also wanted to be mindful of the extreme heat that day, as most of the tour is outside. The popular Dolly Steamboat is a replica and offers incredible views of Canyon Lake and the Superstition Mountain wilderness - we certainly hope you enjoyed the cruise. Thank you, Rachel

Easy booking process and we were contacted the day before to confirm our collection time and location. Robert, I may have his name wrong, sorry, - we met so many great people in our 2 week holiday arrived promptly in a very clean and tidy small bus and made us feel very at ease. We did go on to collect from a couple of other locations however they were pretty much on the way we were going so wasn’t an issue. Our guide provided some great narration on the drive as we travelled between the various stops and my husband and I appreciated his manner and sense of humour. He reminded us of Chevy Chase in the nicest of ways. We had a thoroughly enjoyable day and our Co-travellers were all amenable. The drive through Superstition Mountains was quite something - the scenery was amazing. Tortilla Flats was a lovely stop and the duration of the stop was timed to perfection - highly recommend an ice cream from the shop at the end of the street. Next stop is Canyon Lake where there is the opportunity to purchase lunch. Whilst I appreciate the suggestion to get your lunch to go so you can eat it on the Steamboat there was ample time to consume before we boarded the boat which was our preference as all the food was designed to be served hot. I wasn’t as keen on the boat ride as I had anticipated. It appeared to be almost/ or at capacity and whilst everyone appeared to have a seat I did feel there wasn’t the same opportunity to move around as what there would be with lower passenger numbers. It was a pleasant ride around the deceptively huge lake even if my attention had waned about half way round, for me personally the journey was about 20/25 minutes too long. The last stop is Goldfield which was my favourite stop of the day & I felt it a slight shame that we weren’t there longer as there were plenty of things to occupy your time - a train ride, a small zip line, shooting gallery, a visit down the mine to name a few as well as exploring all the buildings in the “town” though some were closed which was disappointing. Overall an enjoyable day, well executed and fairly priced.
