Lake Pontchartrain
This is an off-the-beaten path, away from large tourist crowds, small group tour. A 14 passenger tour van and excellent driver/guide pick you up at your New Orleans hotel and narrate the scenic 90-minute drive out of New Orleans. Ride along the shores of Lake Pontchartrain and prepare for a pilgrimage back in time to the Antebellum South. There will be a scenic crossing of the Mississippi River on a high suspended bridge. Then you'll take a short ride upriver to Whitney Plantation's Louisiana Museum of Slavery.
2
Whitney Plantation
Recently opened to the public, it exposes the harsh realities and raw historical facts of this dark side of American history. On your self-guided walking tour, you will see slave cabins, a freedmen’s church, detached kitchen and a 1790s owner’s house. Guests will use their own cell phones to access a special Whitney Tour App. All ticket confirmations will include a link to download it. Visitors are encouraged to bring their own headphones for sanitary safety.
3
St. Joseph Plantation
A short ride through sugar cane fields brings you to St. Joseph Plantation, a Creole style, family-owned working sugar cane plantation since 1877. The one-hour tour gives you a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the many interesting people who have called this plantation 'home.' Many tours are guided by family members themselves. It is a relaxed, intimate visit to an ancestral home, grounds, and dependencies (including original slave cabins). The movie 12 Years A Slave was filmed there. Driving back to your New Orleans hotel takes 90 minutes. Lunch is not included but snacks and drinks can be purchased at both gift shops.

To start Gisele was an amazing tour guide. She arrived on time for pickup and was extremely friendly. She was professional, funny and very knowledgeable about the history of New Orleans-the peoples, the cultures, the environment and influences! The Whitney Plantation—WOW! Informative, educational, emotional and interactive!!! St. Joseph Plantation- love the history and the fact that the family is all working together to preserve the history and memory of the site. Overall— my favorite tour during my vacation!!!!

The tour guide (Giselle) was brilliant, loved all her stories. Very good tour company. The Whitney on the other hand wasn’t as good, the handheld devices were not available as it was raining so they asked customers (international customers) to use their own mobile phones in the rain! They ask you to log into their guest shop broadband and download their app but the wifi connection didn’t cover the whole of the plantation so by point 2 of interest you had no audio! No staff around to help either probably due to the torrential rain! Also due to the weather the ground was horrendous to walk around, very big disappoint, would not recommend going there. The 2nd plantation tour at st Joseph was absolutely fantastic, very informative guide could answer all questions that were raised, gave a very informative insight into the life of a plantation family, would highly recommend a visit to St Joseph.

Hello Kerry, I am so happy you loved our guide Gisele, as well as the 'absolutely fantastic' guide at St Joseph Plantation, and I will pass along your great comment to both. Thank you for alerting us as to the audio devices not being available in the heavy rain at Whitney...I think we will probably substitute another Plantation next time when the weather is too wet there, I do apologize for that, this had not happened to us before in all these years! THanks again for taking the time to write, and for helping us to keep making our tours better all the time! Isabelle C.

The driver Stephen provided very interesting commentary on the history of the area. Additionally, the Whitney museum had excellent information on the history of slavery.
