Small-Group Whitney Plantation, Museum of Slavery and St. Joseph Plantation Tour

Overview
This is a fully narrated small group tour by van. At Whitney Plantation's Louisiana Museum of Slavery, see the harsh realities and raw historical facts of a dark side of American history. The slave narratives and artwork recreate the world of a pre-Civil War southern sugar plantation and memorial in honor of the lives of the enslaved people who toiled there. A short ride through sugar cane fields leads to St. Joseph Plantation, a Creole style family-owned working sugar cane plantation. Family members give a relaxed, intimate tour of their ancestral home and dependencies (including original slave cabins).

To start Gisele was an amazing tour guide. She arrived on time for pickup and was extremely friendly. She was professional, funny and very knowledgeable about the history of New Orleans-the peoples, the cultures, the environment and influences! The Whitney Plantationā€”WOW! Informative, educational, emotional and interactive!!! St. Joseph Plantation- love the history and the fact that the family is all working together to preserve the history and memory of the site. Overallā€” my favorite tour during my vacation!!!!

The tour guide (Giselle) was brilliant, loved all her stories. Very good tour company. The Whitney on the other hand wasnā€™t as good, the handheld devices were not available as it was raining so they asked customers (international customers) to use their own mobile phones in the rain! They ask you to log into their guest shop broadband and download their app but the wifi connection didnā€™t cover the whole of the plantation so by point 2 of interest you had no audio! No staff around to help either probably due to the torrential rain! Also due to the weather the ground was horrendous to walk around, very big disappoint, would not recommend going there. The 2nd plantation tour at st Joseph was absolutely fantastic, very informative guide could answer all questions that were raised, gave a very informative insight into the life of a plantation family, would highly recommend a visit to St Joseph.

Hello Kerry, I am so happy you loved our guide Gisele, as well as the 'absolutely fantastic' guide at St Joseph Plantation, and I will pass along your great comment to both. Thank you for alerting us as to the audio devices not being available in the heavy rain at Whitney...I think we will probably substitute another Plantation next time when the weather is too wet there, I do apologize for that, this had not happened to us before in all these years! THanks again for taking the time to write, and for helping us to keep making our tours better all the time! Isabelle C.

The driver Stephen provided very interesting commentary on the history of the area. Additionally, the Whitney museum had excellent information on the history of slavery.
