While in Napa we did two wine tours, one with a private driver and one with Platypus. Both were great—we got to see smaller wineries and have custom experiences with both. Platypus involved a bit more driving because we had to pick up other people (we had 9 in our group), but it was also a fun social crowd to spend the day with. Jerri, our Platypus guide was really friendly and knowledgeable and kept us on schedule. Lunch was buffet style sandwiches (tasty) and was on the deck of one of the wineries we visited. Platypus was very reasonably priced.

Cheers, Jamey; thanks for posting! We offer private tour in addition to our Join-in tours, so I'm really familiar with the differnent dynamics you described. Either way can be awesome, but the efficiencies of the Join-in tour make it possible for us to price it more attractively. The social aspect is just a bonus - I'm always amazed at how well these groups bond over the course of the day and sometimes even arrange to have dinner together. Jerri is a rockin' good tour guide. Virtually everyone we put out on tour with her comes back raving about it! Next time, you can request her to guide your private tour as well as your Join-in tour.

This was my first time trip to Napa and my host at AirBnB that I stayed recommended Platypus Tours and the host was right. I had the best wine tours ever and our guide/driver James was very knowledgeable, kind and new the best wineries to take us. Since our group was small, the members on board the bus soon became friends and we chatted AND tasted some great wines. As did my host, I strongly recommend this tour !

Our Join-in tour is actually able to pick up from a great many air B&Bs, now (not all of them though - call to check). James is yet another one of our guest-favorite tour guides. He is a warm-hearted and earnest guy who works like crazy to make everything seem seamless for his guests. I am delighted to be working with him!

Great experience. We really had a very nice experience. We visit 4 wineries. We met gray people. Highly recommended.
