We took this adventure on April 21. It was amazing. It was about a 35 minute boat ride from the marina to the snorkel location. On the way, our Captain, Erika, gave us a wide range of information about the area, the caves, the lava tubes, and local history. You could tell she loved and respected the area. She had a wonderful attitude and was very personable.
When we arrived at the Captain Cook Monument snorkel site, we had about an hour and a half to snorkel and see the area. There were other boats and many people in the area but it was not overcrowded and we were able to see tons of fish and coral. It was breathtaking. I understand why they said this is where this area was the inspiration for the Finding Nemo movie.
While we were snorkeling, Erika, our Captain, had cut up fresh pineapple and had chips and sodas waiting for us when we got back on the boat. What an added bonus!
Since we were doing the afternoon snorkel, Erika did say that the chances of seeing dolphins was not as high as in the morning. However, as we were getting ready to leave, the dolphins decided to do us a favor and appeared. 3 different pods of dolphins including Spinner dolphins gave us a 15 minute bonus show. What a great way to end a wonderful afternoon.
I would recommend this company for any water experience on Kona. They were exceptional in the way we were treated and Erika was the best Captain.
