This was my first hot air balloon adventure and I was excited and so looking forward to floating high above the ground and seeing interesting sights. Not really knowing what to expect for a 'sunrise' balloon ride, I thought , we would be in the air as the sun was rising. This was my misunderstanding. After arriving at 4:30 for a 4:45 am for check in/departure. after boarding the van, we were late leaving due to 2 very late passengers who came running in around 5am. The van made 4 stops ( more than usual) to various 'test ' locations, releasing a helium balloon up in the air and waiting at least 10 minutes to see how the winds carried the balloon. This was how they determined whether this was a 'good' launching site. This as I said, took 4 attempts. This took total alittle over an hour. When we finally arrived at an 'acceptable' site, the hot air balloon was set up, and inflated, a pretty amazing yet very involved process that required an additional 30-40 minutes or so. Once we launched it was very exciting and Randy our pilot was very pleasant. We didn't rise much above 1,000 feet. ( I was told they will go between 1,000-3,000) and stayed in one main area, near a desert region around.Lake Pleasant. The 'flight itself, only lasted about 30-40 min. and then we descended into the same desert region. Not much to see on the ground from the balloon. After disembarking from the balloon the crew set up a very nice 'breakfast' with champagne, which we enjoyed for about 45 min. My advice is to enjoy the entire experience since the balloon air time is somewhat limited.
