Looking for something to do while visiting Miami Beach a very close friend who resides there suggested that my wife and I take the Art Deco tour in the South Beach area. He had taken the same tour a few days earlier. The guide, Howard, was very enthusiastic and knowledgable. But Art Deco is somewhat of a narrow field, so the tourist would have to have a strong interest in its various design aspects to appreciate all that was shown. Of course just walking around the South Beach area with all of its glitz might be good enough of a reason for going on the tour.

The Art Deco Walking Tour is a must when you visit Miami, covering a renaissance that shows the power of local preservationists and how rich cultural history can create an exceptional urban environment. This was my husband's first visit to Miami and it was my second time taking the tour. This one was even better, led by Kenn Finkel. His tours run long -- but fly by. For those who were interested, he provided handouts for a self-guided walk of areas beyond what's covered in the tour. We appreciated his passion for and knowledge about Miami Beach. He refused tips and urged folks to patronize the Preservation League's gift shop. Highly recommended!

Our Art Deco Historic District is one of our most priced accomplishments. The citizens of Miami Beach fought hard to preserve these jewels of hotels and thanks to them and some wise politicians at the time, we have a unique Art Deco District. Go the the museaum on Ocean Drive, take a tour, walk the district. Enjoy the best history Miami Beach has to offer.
