Pamela Asher was our guide for this tour, a Brit expat for the past 10 years who provided very in depth insight into what Art Deco was/is, the history of Miami Beach to modern day and everything in between. This official tour is the only way to go, tour was just as excellent as the one we went on 16 years ago - partly in the rain! Our 16 year old daughter loved it, taking notes on her iphone for a culture project for high school. No question stumped Pamela, she was attentive both to our group and the hotels who graciously allowed us to tour their wonderful lobbies. Groups are usually a great mix of US and visitors from around the world. A "must do" when visiting Miami.

Do not be fooled by other walking tour offerings. Go with the OFFICIAL tour sponsored by the Miami Design Preservation League. We had a superb tour by guide "Kent." Not only did we learn about art deco in Miami - its beginnings, development and preservation/restoration, we also learned a lot about overall development of Miami as a desired destination.

We went on the walking tour on Thanksgiving Day. Our excellent guide was Pamela who originated from Manchester in the UK. We particularly appreciated going inside a number of the art deco hotels as a tour group. We were Interested in the history of the area and learning facts like the buildings were not coloured originally and now they have to choose colours from a pallete. In addition to the tour Pamela gave us a sheet with more info on art deco hotels in Miami and we were able to do our own tour looking at more hotels on a different stretch of Collins. Taking her advice we went inside other hotels. Many thanks Pamela for a great tour.
