Ok,about a week after we got home LeBron made his comments about Boston fans and prior to going my sister warned me to be careful due to possible racial issues. I’m black and my husband is white. Things can go a couple of ways for us. Overall we really enjoyed Boston. Got some stares but most people were kind. This incident was our only standout experience. Let’s get the good said and done. The tour was lots of fun and the older gentleman who led the tour was funny, energetic and mindful of his audience. I highly recommend the tour. Be prepared to walk/ climb stairs. THAT being said. If you are a person of color leave your bag at home or in the car or be prepared to pay $5 to the park for your purse. Take a look at the current guidelines, it states : “No bags larger than 5x9 allowed with the exceptions of medical or diaper bags” period. There’s nothing else. So imagine the large group about 10 people ahead of us when they were denied entrance for small purse book bags. My husband looked at me and I said no hon, I’m fine. This is clearly a purse …Coach retail purse. Imagine my surprise when I was told that because of my straps I had to either not go or place my purse with their store down the block on my dime! We were traveling, we wanted to do the tour, and some days you just don’t feel like dying on a hill. So we ran to the store a block away, gave them $5 for something we had no forewarning of. I was not a happy camper, but sometimes life just sucks. By the way they don’t measure, have an example there, it’s all subjectively decided by the “jerk” at the door. THEN we proceeded on the tour. Because we were delayed, we were in the back and I had a lovely view of all these backs with their backpack purses, across the body purses and one huge purse on the shoulder. I’m peeved but again sometimes life sucks. THEN my husband specifically directed me to tell him who had the offending bags and who had been turned away. I normally pay attention to who is given a pass and who’s not. It completely went over my head until my husband pointed it out. The group ahead of us who had to take about 5 bags to the car to gain entrance were clearly by look and heavy accent Hispanic. The people walking around with their bags still on them were white! 😯 Again, persons of color, take a wristlet or clear it with the subjective possible jerk at the desk that day or risk being denied.

I loved how knowledgeable our guide was and the pace with which we went through the tour. It was really fun learning all the history of the park and some fun baseball history, too.

I was very disappointed at the tour guide. I think they broke out tour in two and he was told to wait with us so he asked us stand up comic questions, “ So where are you from?” Etc. And then he would actually ask us a question and never gave us the correct answer. He teased us with visits to certain sites but time ran out and we were escorted to the musuem and then the exit. If you want to take a tour of Fenway. Go see a game and walk around while reading the Wikipedia page off “Fenway Park”. Don’t waste money on the tour itself!!
