The train is old but well maintained. We were in first class and the couch/seats were very comfy! Susanne???(i think her name was) seated us, served us and made our drinks! She was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The ride was beautiful, it's too bad that you have to go back the same way you came, gets a bit boring. Train was nice and clean and the food was fine, definitely, don't expect first class food, but was just fine. Had a fun time just a little bit too long. Well worth doing.

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. We are blessed, and cursed, with this historic line. Yes, it does travel back the same direction that it came from, but we do take pride in the fact that this line was created back in 1911.

I showed up at 11:30 am for the 1pm trip and everything was open and I was able to pick up my tickets. First Class is definitely the way to go. ABout 12;30, people started lining up in front of the train car they were assigned to. Seating is first come first seated. The seating had table for 2 and couches for 4. Small snacks were given in first class as was alcohol for purchase and water was free but warm. The waitress pushed the sale of alcohol as this was her tip for the trip and her being there. She didn't seem to thrilled about having to work. The train traveled slowly and you were able to walk out to a viewing platform car to get a closer look at the scenery. There was an employee named Sully who was out on the platform telling people of the rock formations and all the old tales. He was very knowledgeable about the surroundings and to the area, and even answered questions about the surrounding towns. He really made the trip an adventure.

Riding the Verde Canyon Railway is a relaxing way to see the beauty that is the Verde Canyon while enjoying a libation. We traveled with a couple from Belgium and while they were used to riding on trains, the amazing views and glorious weather kept us out on the outdoor cars the entire trip. Bar service definitely helped. Train turns around at Perkinsville station which was used as a location in the film "How the West Was Won."
