Wow, what a memorable experience. I had no idea that our monuments and memorials (except the Air Force memorial) are open 24 hours. In fact, several of the memorials (the Korean in particular) felt more impactful in the quiet of night. Even with a little rain, this was the perfect time way to see all the highlights of the capital, and I do mean all! I was shocked by how many important places we were able to see without feeling overly rushed at any one stop. Our guide Dustin was very knowledgeable (and in fact his personal relationship with the officer at the Air Force memorial was what got us in when we arrived just before closing!) and the lack of crowds was also a major bonus. One note: the pathway lighting in many of these spots is surprisingly low and I twisted my ankle on transitional paving outside the Lincoln Memorial, so those with mobility and/or vision issues might want to stick with the daytime tours.
